Matt Gabrielson is riding on July 17, 2010 at Vermont.
Hello! My name is Matt (that's not me in the picture, but I am a big fan of spitz dogs such as the Samoyed puppy here) and this year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Ride to Cure Diabetes in Burlington, Vermont (a place I've been wanting to to visit for a long time now). There will be hundreds of other Riders participating in Burlington and across the country, (including my dad, Eric) as we try to reach our goal of raising $4.5 million.
Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, including myself. A large and growing percentage of them children :O
I have been diabetic for some 10 long years, and it never gets any easier as the years go by. There have been breakthroughs in equipment and devices for improving lifestyles for diabetics, but in the end, you still have to monitor your blood sugars and continue to rely on machines and instruments that no one should be burdened with. It's time that a cure can be found and that is why I'm riding this year.
There is some good news, though. For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure well within our lifetime!
Now, more than ever, YOU can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF and support my ride as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!
