John D White is riding on August 30, 2008 at Whitefish/August.
My nephew, Joseph White, was diagnosed with type 1 juvenile diabetes two years ago when he was 5 years old. Now he depends on multiple injections of insulin to stay alive. Each day brings the same routine of shots, blood tests, and measured food and exercise. A simple cold can throw off the delicate balance of diabetes management.
In spite of these challenges, Joseph maintains a positive attitude and is determined that a cure will be found in his lifetime. I will be riding in his honor in this year's JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes - a 100 mile bicycle ride in Whitefish Montana on August 30, 2008. You can learn more about this ride and the work of JDRF at http://ride.jdrf.org. This year, myself, Joseph's Dad and seven other uncles will be joining me on the ride, along with a number of our close friends.
Twenty-five extraordinary riders means that we need to raise together $100,000 to meet our fundraising goals and make sure everyone can travel with us. It also means that we need to buy a few bikes which should tell you a lot about the amazing commitment of my teammates. A rider sponsor gift would help us reach this goal and advance the dedicated work of JDRF.
Some riders have personal commitments to keep fighting for a cure to this disease, while others are simply looking for a positive way to give back to their community. All are inspired to meet the challenge. Whatever their motive, the Ride is an unforgettable experience that will bring a feeling of great satisfaction and that will bring us closer to a cure for diabetes, one pedal stroke at a time.
Whether you are riding with us or supporting us financially, I pledge to you this: one day in our lifetimes there will be a cure for this disease and when others ask who discovered that cure, we can raise our hands together and say that we did.
Joseph and I, along with all of the members of our family and team, thank you for your consideration of our request. We'll send you a progress report after the event to let you know how much closer to the Cure we are able to get due to your generosity.
Thank you for helping our team meet our goal this year to make a difference.
Sincerely,
John D. White Chairman & CEO Compass Marketing, Inc.
