Ian Joyce is riding on October 18, 2008 at Death Valley.
This year bicyclists across the country are working together to raise $3.2 million for diabetes research. Please support the search for a cure for diabetes by donating to a very special cause: the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Ride to Cure Diabetes.
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1976. During the past 32 years I've managed the disease so that I can continue to lead a healthy, active life that's free of many of the complications that affect others with diabetes. In October, I will join other bicyclists from across the United States to ride 105 miles in Death Valley, California. Some of my fellow riders also have diabetes, while others will ride to honor friends or family members with the disease.
All of us involved in the ride will be working to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation -- money that will be directed to diabetes-related research.
The hundreds of cyclists who will participate in Rides to Cure Diabetes have a goal of raising $3.2 million to fund research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. My personal goal is to raise $4,000.
I'm working to raise money for JDRF because a cure for type 1 diabetes is within reach. JDRF funding and its leadership is associated with most major scientific breakthroughs in diabetes research. JDRF funds a major portion of all type 1 diabetes research worldwide, more than any other charity.
Each of us can make a real difference. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation. Together, we can make the cure for diabetes a reality.
You can follow my progress toward the ride on my blog, Veloblog.
