Hello from The Rosenbaums,

Many of you may not know much about Type 1 Diabetes. Besides the devastating potential long-term health effects of this progressive disease, our son Marc (pictured with me during our recent "Dad-Son" trip to Austin, TX) must test his blood up to 8 times a day. He must wear an insulin pump 24 hours a day and give himself the right amount of insulin to cover every morsel of food he eats. The pump and insulin literally keep him alive. Currently, there is no cure for Type 1 diabetes.

Type 1, or juvenile diabetes affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them are children.

There is some good news, though. For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure well within Marc's lifetime!

This year, I'll be attempting to ride 105 miles as part of JDRF's Ride to Cure Diabetes in Killington, VT. I'll be riding along with hundreds of other riders across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $4.5 million.

Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!

Thank you,
The Rosenbaums

Leslie Conn 04/19/2009 Good luck! My mom has had Type 1 since she was 14...that's 52 years! Marc is very lucky to have the insulin pump and the glucose meter. Those tools along with healthy eating and excercise will keep him in check until there is a cure. And there WILL be one in his lifetime...so keep up the good fight until then! I know it's no fun to be diabetic, but the future is very bright. Have a great ride.
